BAMS Admission Without NEET in 2025: Reality or Myth?

Every year, thousands of NEET aspirants wonder: Can I get into BAMS without NEET? Whether due to low scores, missed exams, or simply confusion — this question keeps coming up.

The answer? Mostly no – but there are rare exceptions.

This blog explains the truth behind BAMS admissions, NEET requirements, rules by the Ministry of AYUSH, and the limited scenarios where non-NEET students might still have a chance — plus the risks involved.

Is NEET Mandatory for BAMS Admission in 2025?

Yes, as per the Ministry of AYUSH, NEET UG is mandatory for admission to all undergraduate AYUSH courses:

  • BAMS (Ayurveda)
  • BHMS (Homeopathy)
  • BUMS (Unani)
  • BSMS (Siddha)
  • BNYS (Naturopathy & Yoga) (partially)

The official notification clearly states:

“No candidate shall be admitted to the BAMS course unless they have qualified NEET UG for the corresponding year of admission.”

This applies to:

  • Government colleges
  • Private colleges
  • Deemed universities
  • All India quota + State quota

So Why Do Some Agents Claim ‘Direct BAMS Admission Without NEET’?

This is where the myth begins. Some private colleges and agents offer what they call “direct admission” into BAMS. Here’s the truth:

Possible Scenarios:

  1. Management Quota Seats: Still require NEET qualification, even if cut-off is low.
  2. Unrecognized Colleges or Fake Institutes: These do not follow AYUSH guidelines and their degrees are not valid.
  3. Overseas Medical Courses Posing as BAMS: Misleading offers with no value in India.

Can BNYS Be an Exception?

  • Some BNYS (Naturopathy) colleges allow direct admission without NEET in certain states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Chhattisgarh.
  • However, this is changing as many states are slowly shifting BNYS into NEET-based selection.

Always check the respective university prospectus or state counselling notification.

Legal Implications of BAMS Without NEET

  • You won’t be registered under the NCISM if admitted without NEET.
  • No internship allotment.
  • No PG (MD Ayurveda) eligibility.
  • Not eligible for AYUSH doctor government jobs.
  • Degree may not be valid for license, insurance, or abroad opportunities.
